Contract duration: Fixed term to 30 June 2027

Work hours: Full-Time, Monday-Friday 08:00am - 04:30pm

Salary: $115,040.60 - $129,034.64 p.a

 

Role Description: 

The purpose of the Cancer Program is to support ACCHOs to respond to and improve cancer-related health outcomes, tailored to local needs and priorities. The program will reshape the cancer narrative from fear and stigmatisation to empowerment. This will require co-ordination, co-design and delivery of holistic and culturally safe and responsive cancer programs across the cancer journey.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the NACCHO and the ACCHO sector to improve the delivery and accessibility of mainstream cancer services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Work with the NT government to support the development of relevant and culturally safe and responsive cancer policy and programs that reflect the National Agreement on Closing the Gap
  • Participate in Communities of Practice
  • Advocate for cancer issues through Northern Territory networks
  • Contribute to the support of culturally responsive and culturally safe health information and promotion material across the cancer care journey for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Maintain reporting requirements as per an activity workplan to ensure project outcomes are achieved.  

 

Selection Requirements (Qualifications & Attributes)

 

ESSENTIAL

  • AHPRA registered clinician with significant experience in health care delivery and/or substantial health care experience in primary health care.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including the requirements for proper negotiations and consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Demonstrated ability to provide relevant information for the development of policies and procedures, including capacity for application of initiative, creativity, and sound judgment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of co-design and co-decision-making principles
  • Experience working with a range of stakeholders, including government and community-controlled organisations
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills to influence change, and experience communicating complex or sensitive issues to a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Community engagement skills and/or experience in health stakeholder engagement
  • Experience or the ability to work with committees including Expert Working Groups and Communities of Practice.

 

DESIRABLE

  • Previous experience working in Aboriginal primary health care in the NT.
  • Experience advocating for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health sector
  • Awareness of the history and role of Aboriginal community-controlled health organisations and a knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people societies and cultures and the issues affecting the health outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
