Role Description

AMSANT, in partnership with Northern Territory Government, is undertaking a two-year project aimed to reduce alcohol related harm in the Northern Territory.  As part of a larger strategy, the project involves the design of community-led responses to alcohol related harm, with $10M over two years available to communities to resource implementation.

This role will provide support for AMSANT Members and other relevant ACCOs to facilitate the design, resourcing, and evaluation of community-led responses to reduce alcohol related harm in communities across the NT.  Working in close collaboration with Northern Territory Department of Health Harm Minimisation Unit, the role will involve collating an evidence-base for effective alcohol-related harm reduction strategies, facilitating the design of locally led responses and evaluating their effectiveness. 

Responsibilities

1. Lead and manage a significant project, from high level planning and engagement with diverse stakeholders through to day-to-day operations.
2. Engage and support AMSANT Members and other relevant ACCOs to design community-led responses to reduce alcohol-related harm in the NT.
3. Collate the existing evidence-based on alcohol-related harm reduction strategies in and/or applicable to the NT to inform community-led decision-making. 
4. Work collaboratively with Northern Territory Government to map existing alcohol-related harm reduction strategies and promote the coordination and integration of strategies in use across the NT.
5. In collaboration with stakeholders, develop an evaluation framework to support improved understanding of the effectiveness of alcohol-related harm reduction strategies across communities in the NT.
6. Contribute to AMSANT’s broader strategic policy, research and advocacy functions, working within a Social and Emotional Wellbeing framework.

 

Selection Requirements (Qualifications & Attributes)

ESSENTIAL

1. Qualifications and/or significant experience in a relevant health, social science or community development discipline, including experience in project management.
2. Demonstrated leadership experience in project management, co-design and evaluation of alcohol-related harm reduction strategies, ideally in the context of remote Aboriginal communities.
3. Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting Aboriginal people and communities in the NT and patterns of use and associated harms for individuals, families and communities.
4. Proven ability to develop and maintain collaborative and culturally safe relationships with culturally diverse internal and external stakeholders, including experience working directly with Aboriginal people.
5. Demonstrated ability to strategically analyse problems, assess and manage risk, develop solutions and deliver timely and quality results in a complex environment.
6. Excellent oral and written skills and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders including Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS), Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), Aboriginal communities and government agencies.
7. IT literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

DESIRABLE

1. Knowledge of the Northern Territory alcohol frameworks and alcohol measures in place in the NT.
2. Experience working in an Aboriginal controlled organisation.
