Contract Duration: Fixed Term for 12 Months

Work hours: Full-Time/Part Time :Monday-Friday 08:00am - 04:30pm

Salary: $115,147.33 – $129,140.92 p.a + 12% Super

 

Role Description: 

This position will provide registrars with excellent opportunity to develop public health skills in an Aboriginal community-controlled environment. This position will contribute to the AMSANT public health unit across a range of areas including policy, advocacy and research, communicable disease and public health approaches and clinical system development within primary health care. The position will also undertake project work with previous examples including needs analysis focusing on antenatal care and a review of early childhood programs relevant to Aboriginal primary health care. The position will also contribute to the day-to-day work of the Public Health Unit including through providing timely advice on policy/advocacy/research issues to the  public health manager and then to the  CEO and board as needed.  The work plan for this position will be flexible depending on existing skills, experience, interest and training needs of the successful applicant.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Contribute to clinical system development within ACCHSs and across the Aboriginal Primary Health Care (PHC) system in the NT.
  • Provide public health support to member services with a focus on the current COVID pandemic
  • Contribute to public health policy and advocacy work as a member of the Public Health Advisory Group
  • Undertake 1- 2 major projects in a research /policy/primary health care development that advances the interests of the community controlled sector in the NT and potentially at the national level
  • Review research proposals according to the AMSANT research policy for their potential to contribute to Aboriginal PHC capacity and improvement in health outcomes
  • Provide advice and support to senior clinicians in the sector on public health /primary health care system issues.
  • Contribute as an active member of the AMSANT Public Health team.
  • Attend all staff and team meetings as required by AMSANT

 

Selection Requirements (Qualifications & Attributes)

 

ESSENTIAL

  • Eligible for medical registration in the NT
  • Currently enrolled or eligible to enroll in the Australian Faculty of Public Health Medicine training scheme
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills suited to a cross-cultural environment and communication with government and other non-government organizations.
  • An interest in developing public health skills and competencies related to Aboriginal primary health care
  • Capacity to work in an Aboriginal community controlled organization including an ability to take direction from Aboriginal management and to work co-operatively in a cross-cultural environment

 

DESIRABLE

  • Clinical and /or public health experience in Aboriginal primary health care.

  • Original qualifications must be available for viewing and copies to be kept on personnel file.
  • Applications must have an Ochre Card and a Current Police Check and/or ability to obtain these prior to commencement.
  • Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver’s Licence.
