Role Description

The Workforce & Leadership Support Manager position will manage and lead the Workforce and Leadership Support team along with development and implementation of strategies and programming.

 

This position will focus on the support of AMSANT member services through actively seeking opportunities to develop and implement initiatives that are beneficial to the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health and related services sector.

 

Regular reporting to the AMSANT Board, member meetings and key forums as directed by the AMSANT Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage on a day-to-day basis the Workforce and Leadership Support programs and any other relevant projects and report regularly on progress and developments with those activities.
  • Provide high level support to the Chief Executive Officer and AMSANT Board through preparation of briefings and position papers as directed.
  • Provide high level support to the Chief Executive Officer and NT Aboriginal Health Forum (NTAHF) via preparation of briefings and position papers as directed.
  • Represent AMSANT at forums and meetings at a regional, territory and national level that is relevant to program areas and as directed by the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Assist with the provision and maintenance of timely and strategic reporting of AMSANT activity to relevant funders and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to development, implementation and reporting of effective AMSANT strategic, programming and operational plans.
  • Actively build and maintain partnerships with member services and key stakeholders.
  • Support the AMSANT Senior Management Team by contributing to weekly SMT meetings, and complete follow up actions assigned as required.
  • Execute any other duties as requested by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer.

 

Selection Requirements (Qualifications & Attributes)

 

ESSENTIAL

  • Demonstrated capacity and successful experience in managing health and project teams to produce effective outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in all aspects of undertaking and managing large projects, including capacity to analyse budgets and experience in planning and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated analytical and conceptual skills, especially the ability to present complex ideas and situations in a straightforward manner.
  • Proven verbal and written communication skills suited to a cross-cultural environment and communication with government and other non-government organisations.
  • Demonstrated understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture and politics and the ability to take direction from Aboriginal management and work co-operatively in a cross-cultural environment.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people via: a knowledge of who to approach and how; an ability to gain the trust and confidence of stakeholders and co-workers; a knowledge of cultural conventions and appropriate behaviour.
  • An awareness of the history and role of Aboriginal organizations in the Northern Territory, an understanding of their history and goals, and knowledge of the environment in which these organizations operate.
  • Ability to work responsibly without close supervision including the capacity to plan and use time effectively when working on several tasks at once.
  • Ability and willingness to lead team related tasks to benefit the organisation.

 

DESIRABLE

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a health, education, management, or related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues pertaining to Indigenous primary health care and current community-controlled health sector and government policy objectives within the Top End and/or Central Australian context.
